In any type of environment with a formal hierarchy, leadership is one of the most crucial pieces to the entire equation. Leaders have the ability to bring direction to those they oversee: they lead by example, provide cohesiveness throughout a large group, inspire workers, and work hard for a better future.
Here at Micronyx, I believe that a management style suited towards transformational leadership is best as described within the company book. This method of leadership seems to instill a personal sense of drive and determination. Having been in various lower level jobs during my lifetime, I think something that happens too often is leaders giving little to no autonomy to the workers. It’s important to guide workers and give them the framework they need to succeed without watching over their every move. With a larger company in mind, many of these associates will become tomorrow’s managers and leaders. When leaders aren’t able to give adequate leeway for workers to exercise their own problem solving skills, they become very reliant on the manager to give them guidance because they don’t personally feel comfortable making decisions. The transformational leadership approach leads workers in the correct direction while giving them the motivation to strive further. I think this style allows workers to make appropriate decisions at their work level while also giving them the direction and influence needed to become better workers. In addition, this sense of transformational leadership should be used at all management levels as it lets workers craft the better version of themselves through their work. I feel like this method is a great way to nurture future managers and leaders who will someday overtake the duties of their current manager.
The Four Elements of Transformational Leadership
Transforming Transformational Leadership | Lesley Hayes | TEDx
Each leader has a different way they lead a group, but throughout every leader there are common qualities they exhibit. A good leader will strive to set their subordinates on the right path to becoming the best they can be. An exceptional leader will hold this same mindset, but understand that they’re setting up their future whether the workers stay at the current company or move on. One of the reasons why I enjoy working at Micronyx is due to the emphasis they put on leadership. They understand the influence a leader can have on an individual and don’t take that task lightly. I feel as though I’m being taught how to become a leader here, rather than learn how to give directions like one.
